Last week Amazon Web Services released a feature called “Web Page Redirect”, and the first thing that came to my mind was: “Why not use it to build a URL Shortener?”
For this purpose, S3 accepts uploads via specially-crafted and pre-authorized HTML POST forms. You can include these forms in any web page to allow your web site visitors to send you files using nothing more than a standard web browser.
Suppose you want to host your static website on Amazon S3. You have registered a domain, for example, example.com, and you want requests for http://www.example.com and http://example.com to be served from your Amazon S3 content. Whether you have an existing static website that you now want to host on Amazon S3 or you are starting from scratch, this example will help you host websites on Amazon S3.
And there we go. I found most of that via Googling, but none of it was all in one place and it took way too long to piece together. Hopefully it’ll be useful to others. Bear in mind that I DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT I’M DOING and may have got things wrong.
